A Case of Surgical Extraction of Fasciola Hepatica in The Common Bile Duct
Kim Hyeong-Soo

Park Nae-Kyeong
Abstract
Fascioliasis is a zoonotic(herbivorous mammals; cattle, sheep, rabbit, deer, etc.) disease caused by Fasciola hepatica, a liver fluke, for which human acts as an accidental host. The infestation of Fasciola hepatica into the human biliary tract is due to accidental ingestion of an aquatic plan or water contaminated by metacercaria of Fasciola hepatica. Fascioliasis, while common in some tropical countries, is rare in Korea and only a few cases have been reported. The author experienced a patient who had eosinophilic liver abscess and cholangitis due to fascioliasis in the common bile duct and whose disease was diagnosed by ultrasonogram, abdominal CT, abdominal MRI and serologic test for parasite-specific IgG by micro-ELISA. The trial of removal of adult worm by basket after endoscopic sphincterotomy was failed. One adult worm was removed by stone forcep through surgical choledochotomy.
